Parenting a Child With ADHD Shouldn’t Feel Like a Constant Guessing Game

You remind, explain, set limits, try to be patient, and somehow you still end up with arguments, homework battles, screen-time conflict, emotional outbursts, or a child who struggles to follow through.

You may find yourself wondering:

Am I helping too much?
Should I hold the boundary or offer more support?
Is this ADHD, anxiety, a lagging skill, or simply part of growing up?

This is where my work begins.

I help parents step back from the immediate struggle, understand what may be happening underneath it, and become clearer about what to do next.

You Don’t Need More ADHD Information

ADHD advice is everywhere.

What is harder is knowing what actually applies to your child and your family.

Sometimes a child needs more support. Sometimes they need a clearer boundary. Sometimes executive function or anxiety is getting in the way. Sometimes we parents are stepping in too quickly because we are afraid of what might happen if we don’t.

Coaching gives you a place to sort through those differences.

We may work on homework, screens, emotional outbursts, anxiety, routines, consequences, motivation, school challenges, independence, sibling conflict, or simply how to stop getting pulled into the same argument again and again.

The goal is not perfect parenting or a perfectly behaved child.

It is to help you better understand:

What is happening?
What does my child need?
What do I need to hold as the parent?
What might I need to do differently?

About Me

I’m Kate Brownfield, ACC, an ICF Associate Certified Coach, Certified ADHD and Executive Function Parent Coach, founder of ADHD Kids Can Thrive, podcast host, author, and a parent who has walked this road myself.

My work combines professional ADHD parent coaching and executive function education with 20+ years of lived parenting experience.

My approach is warm, practical, and compassionate—but also honest. Sometimes the most helpful shift comes from understanding our child differently. Sometimes it comes from changing what we are doing as parents.

I also host The ADHD Kids Can Thrive Podcast, where I speak with leading experts in ADHD, parenting, education, mental health, and neurodiversity.

Ways to Work With Me

My mission is to help parents raising children with ADHD feel less lost, more supported, and more confident in how they lead their family.

You don’t need another list of ADHD strategies.

You need help understanding what is happening in your family and what to do next.
